lore

Hello, family!!!! We’re back for another one, this time around with mad food – birthday boy Fuge will start things off b2b with Fedra, one of his partners in the Papaya Papaya Mamão show, every 2nd and 4th Friday on East Village Radio. After that we’ve got a rare live set from the incredible producer, Plebeian, followed by an epically fun closer from Brooklyn heartthrob, Sobolik.

We’ve put up the recordings from our last party: Laenz and Off-Brand started slow, ambient, and weird, and turned up the funk about midway through. They’re really versatile artists with super deep crates of contemporary music and this set reflects comfort in a huge range of the weird across the widest dub spectrum; hopefully we see them more at the studio. Then aka-Sol and como se DJ came on for the romantic, sexy, good-bye set that we were waiting for: it sped up and slowed down and there were beautiful moments of near silence that brought us together, and some great sub workouts. They have telepathic chemistry. The only problem was that it was cut short right at the stroke of midnight because we had a speaker crash and take one of our crew with it (everyone remember DIY or DIE: but really, everyone look out for themselves and each other, this space is a work in progress). Let’s call this set part one, to be continued (after a semester or so)…

Fuge is dropping in for a set on Dynoman’s Sounds of Time on N10.AS, Thursday 8/28 from 9-11pm, so tune in. Dynoman played an incredible set of all original music at Fiber last year, but tomorrow, 8/23 is gonna be playing a sick live hardware set of HAAL music at the studio, and there’s gonna be a big delicious biryani if you come early. Also Slickdown is bringing Travella to Bossa tonight! (Incredible flier).

We know this next Fiber weekend is a busy one, what with the day before having not only the legends Cry at Mansions with aka-Sol and SPF-50, but also absolute DIY icon and inspiration Groovy Groovy bringing in Bristol Dubstep royalty to a warehouse near you, with those beautiful and clear pink stacks from Karlala. Go out and support the homies, party, dance, sleep in and wake up late to come get FED at Fiber before hitting the streets again. There are a lot of places, in short, where you can hear great music in the city, but very few filled with this kind of love, outside of the false promise that the more you spend the more fun you’ll have.

Friends, our party has been regularly selling out early. And while we’re certainly happy about the enthusiasm, we’re less happy to tell people that they can’t come. Because the venue is such a delicate space, there is a hard limit on capacity, and so we really can’t be flexible about tickets at the door anymore. We understand that plans are always in flux, but we can’t promise there will always be tickets for people who do not commit in advance, even friends. Lately we’ve been selling out as early as the Thursday before the party, so consider yourself advised to buy your tickets and plan to come in advance. We don’t want to be exclusionary, but we do want to strictly adhere to the studio’s rules and respect their safety measures, and most importantly to cultivate a space where everyone who is here with us is coming with intention.

LIBERTY CITY

We’re happy to have some people tabling with us who are doing real work against the cruel scum in our immigration dept: Liberty City is a daily space for people to collaborate and organize systems of support and mutual aid for our compas (folks going through the immigration courts & seeking asylum), and to fight back against the Trump mass disappearance machine.

This space has been created with affinity groups and immigration rights organizations to serve as a resource for compas set up in Thomas Paine Park outside the Federal Plaza immigration courts where ICE abductions are happening every single day. From 6a-7p, Liberty City is providing resources for asylum seekers, daily court watch trainings, art projects, skill shares and workshops, and free dinners with conversation. It is a place to get plugged into rapid response efforts, build community, and get plugged into existing court watch networks – all necessary things to protect people at risk of being targeted by ICE that only happen when people step up!
